E-mail from good friend of QLocal, Burscough's Doug Elliott, re. controversial plans by Tesco to limit car parking at its Burscough store to just three hours.

A number of local business owners have told of the devastating effect it will have on the village economy with many parking there to run their local shops, etc.

He writes: 'It's essential that as many people make their objections to remove the public parking condition on the Tesco car park before 16th May. I have entered my objection to the above application as follows:

The condition that the Tesco car park would be available for unrestricted public car parking was imposed due to the shortage of car parking in Burscough.

This situation has been exacerbated by the construction of large new housing estates on Fletcher's Farm, Liverpool Road South and Orrell Lane and the development of the former British Legion car park for housing.

It is therefore essential that those public car parking facility be retained, and I therefore submit my OBJECTION to the application.'

As a former chairman of the Planning committee I well remember the application and the reasons for the condition; without it, it's doubtful that the planning application would have been approved.
